His connection to the Ilagan clan extended through his father-in-law, Gerardo De Leon, who was related to actors such as Jay Ilagan, Robert Arevalo, Barbara Perez, and Kenneth Ilagan.

Valdez underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 2022.

Adhrin Domingo said they recovered a caliber .45 Norinco pistol, with an inserted empty magazine, one fired cartridge case, and a gun case containing one empty magazine beside the suicide victim.

Further examination showed that the actor sustained gunshot wounds on his right and left temple he appeared to have committed suicide.
